Nevada McEniry-Hatajlo, B.A., B.C.L., J.D.

Nevada has been working for Kimberley Pegg Barristers as an associate since August 2024. She was called to the bar shortly before that, and did her articling with the Scarborough Crown Attorney’s Office. She initially thought she wanted to be a prosecutor, but her experience on both sides has solidified for her that she only wants to be doing defence work, whether it’s for criminal matters, or child protection matters. She has seen time and time again how her clients have struggled, been victimized and have been misunderstood, and she fights everyday to assure that some amount of dignity and respect is afforded back to them. 

Nevada graduated from McGill University, where she got both her B.C.L. and J.D.. While at McGill, she participated in the Julius Alexander Isaac Diversity Mooting Competition, was a co-director of Innocence McGill, and participated in a Human Rights Internship with the Bulgarian Center for Not-For-Profit Law. She worked for McGill Center for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism (CHRLP), as well as for McGill Office for Students with Disabilities. She volunteered her time with organizations in Montreal like Center for Research-Action on Race Relations and Stella, L’amie de Maimie.

Prior to McGill, she completed a Bachelor’s in Communication Studies from Concordia University, and a Bachelor’s Certificate in Feminist Studies at the Simone de Beauvoir Institute. She worked in Concordia University’s Student Union, in both their legal information clinic as well as in their advocacy centre. She prides herself on being a passionate and empathetic advocate for people, and finds a lot of value in being able to help folks navigate the legal system. 

Prior to moving to the Ottawa region, Nevada was a regular participant in local musical theatre in Montreal. She’s a very creative person and outside of work, she’s an avid crafter and enjoys creative projects which she gifts to her friends and family.

Nevada speaks both English and French fluently, and is learning Ukrainian.
